Your Question:

How do we choose love over fear in our daily routines?

Answer:

As I reflect on our move to a new area, I'm reminded that we no longer have to deal with the kind of fear that was present in our previous community. However, the lessons we learned about God's perfect love casting out all fear have stayed with us. This experience has taught me that fear can arise when we doubt God's ability to keep us and those we care about safe.

When we're not well-prepared, we tend to rely on rules and formulas, rather than the love and trust that comes from a deep relationship with God. The Bible teaches that love and fear are opposing forces, and that perfect love casts out fear because fear involves torment. As I pray for my wife Susan, I ask God to perfect her in His love, so that fear finds no place in her heart.

As a pastor, I've seen how fear can grip people, especially children, who may not be able to discern what's real and what's not. But when we're grounded in God's love, we can help others overcome their fears. By praying, speaking truth, and living out our faith, we can help others see that God's love is greater than any fear. This is especially important for our children, Joshua and Rebecca, as they navigate the challenges of growing up.
