Biblical Answer

I can only imagine the pain and frustration you must be feeling after losing your home. It's natural to wonder why things had to go this way, especially when you've worked so hard for it. The Bible reminds us that our earthly possessions and wealth are fleeting and temporary. As the saying goes, "You'll never see a hearse pulling a U-Haul." Our focus should be on building a life that is eternal, not just a house that is temporary. In fact, Jesus taught that "where your treasure is, there your heart will be also" (Matthew 6:21). If our hearts are tied to our possessions and wealth, we'll always be anxious and worried about losing them.

It's also worth considering that our homes are not immune to losses and disasters. Even if we work hard to maintain them, they can still be taken away from us. The Bible teaches that "man's life consists not in the abundance of his possessions" (Luke 12:15). Our true security and happiness come from a relationship with God, not from our earthly possessions. As the psalmist wrote, "The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O God, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands" (Psalm 138:8). Our purpose and fulfillment come from serving and honoring God, not from accumulating wealth and possessions.

In the midst of this difficult season, it's essential to remember that God is sovereign over all things, including our circumstances. He is working all things together for our good, even when we don't understand why things are happening (Romans 8:28). May we trust in His goodness and sovereignty, even when we don't see it. May we also learn to reorient our hearts and priorities, so that we're not tied to our earthly possessions, but to the eternal and unchanging God. As the Bible says, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal" (Matthew 6:19-20). May we seek to build a life that is rooted in eternity, not just a house that is temporary.
