Your Question:
What happens when I'm no longer able to take care of my family?
Answer:
As I reflect on my own life, I've come to realize that my wife Susan and I have been blessed with the opportunity to nurture our children as they grow and become independent. Our son Joshua is 17 and our daughter Rebecca is 14, and we're grateful for the time we have with them. As they mature, we're looking forward to the day when they'll move out and start their own lives. However, I must admit that I've also thought about what the future holds when we're no longer able to take care of our family. Ideally, we hope to continue serving and nurturing others, even in our retirement. We've seen examples of this in our own parents, who've redirected their service to focus on other areas of life. It's a beautiful thing to see people continue to serve and make a difference, even in their later years. But, as I read in scripture, Jesus encourages us to take up our cross and not delay or make excuses. He says, "Let the dead bury their own dead." This reminds me that our time on this earth is limited, and we should focus on serving and following Him now, rather than putting it off for later. It's a powerful reminder to live each day with purpose and intention, and to prioritize our relationship with God and with others.
