The Means of the Holy Spirits Guidance

The Holy Spirit's guidance is not a direct, audible voice, but rather a sense of leading that comes through various means. We are called to test the spirits to see if they are of God (1 John 4:1-3). The litmus test for the leading of the Holy Spirit is the Word of God. If the Holy Spirit's guidance is in line with Scripture, we can be confident that it is from God. The Holy Spirit works through our inner hunches, but we must be careful not to confuse these with our own thoughts or biases. He also provides guidance through spiritual gifts such as prophecy (1 Corinthians 14:29-33).

The Assurance of the Holy Spirits Presence

The Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirits that we are children of God (Romans 8:16). This assurance is a key aspect of the Holy Spirit's work in our lives. When we are led by the Holy Spirit, we experience a sense of peace and confidence that comes from knowing we are following God's will. The Holy Spirit also gives us the power to overcome our sinful nature and to live a life that reflects our new identity in Christ. He shows us our absolute unworthiness and then miraculously gives us the power to overcome our sins.

The Importance of Obedience

The Holy Spirit's guidance is not just about knowing what to do, but also about obeying what we know. We must present the gospel and stay out of the way of the working of the Spirit (Romans 11:11-24). The Holy Spirit is veridical and unmistakable for those who have experienced His guidance. He will illuminate Scriptures, lead us to people for witness or ministry, and give us the power to overcome our sinful nature. We must rely on the certainty of God's redemptive power and trust that He will guide us in His way. By doing so, we will experience the fullness of God's blessing and guidance in our lives.
