Why Does God Allow Pain?

God desires that there should be no physical pain in his creation. However, in some instances, he decides not to prevent pain by a special act of his own. This does not mean he is indifferent to our pain, but rather, pain is a place of special closeness with him. God uses pain as a megaphone to rouse a deaf world, shouting to us when we are unable to hear Him otherwise.

The Purpose of Pain

The purpose of pain is not to punish us for our sins, but to draw us closer to God. When we experience pain, we have the opportunity to turn to God for help and comfort. Jesus hurts for hurting people and wants to be close to us, even in our pain. He uses our suffering as a venue to employ strategies like hopelessness, distance, and forgiveness. By turning to God in our pain, we can find comfort and strength in Him.

The Ultimate Goal

God has a plan to eliminate pain and suffering from this world. Until then, Christians are to turn to Him in their pain and trust that He is working all things together for their good. Jesus is the resurrection and the life, and if we are trusting in Him, our ending will be unimaginably good. God is in control of all things, including our suffering, and He is using it to draw us closer to Himself. By trusting in Him, we can find hope and comfort in the midst of pain.
