What is the best way to show kindness to those around us when we're feeling tired?
When we're feeling tired, it can be challenging to show kindness to those around us. However, we can start by putting on a friendly manner and behaving as if we were a nicer person than we actually are. As the Bible says in Proverbs 4:23, "Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life." This means that we should be mindful of our attitude and behavior, and make an effort to be kind and friendly even when we don't feel like it. By doing so, we can actually start to feel friendlier and more affectionate towards others, rather than just pretending to be.
One way to show kindness to those around us is to give them our attention and affection. A study by psychotherapist Virginia Satir concluded that people need at least twelve hugs every day in order to grow and thrive. This doesn't mean that we have to give everyone we meet a hug, but it does suggest that we should make an effort to physically touch and show affection to those we care about. This can be as simple as giving a hug, holding hands, or just sitting together in silence. By doing so, we can show that we value and care for each other.
Finally, we can show kindness to others by serving them and meeting their needs. This can be as simple as doing a chore for someone, or helping them with a task. As Jesus said in Matthew 25:40, "The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.'" By serving others, we can demonstrate our love and care for them, and show that we value and appreciate them. We can also volunteer at a local shelter or nursing home, where we can serve and show kindness to those who are in need. By doing so, we can bring joy and comfort to those around us, even when we're feeling tired.
