The Cycle of Anger and Forgiveness

When we have forgiven someone for a wrong they have committed against us, it can be tempting to think that the matter is settled. However, in reality, the process of forgiveness is not always a one-time event, but rather a continuous process. As the Bible says, "We ourselves become imprisoned by this seething anger" (Ps 32:2-4) if we fail to release the wrong that has been done against us. This anger can bring us to a crossroads where we must choose to turn to God for forgiveness and guidance, or to let our anger consume us.

The Return of Anger: A Test of Trust

If we find that anger has returned, it may be a sign that we do not truly trust God. As the Bible says, "Our anger indicates that we really dont trust God" (Ps 32:2-4). When we identify anger in our lives, we cannot simply say, "I am going to stop being angry." Such a resolution is admirable, but it is not enough. Instead, we must respond to our anger in a way that reflects our trust in God. This may involve praying for patience and love to temper our anger, or meditating on the Lord's Prayer and making it our own. By doing so, we can demonstrate our commitment to living a life that reflects Christian values and teachings.

The Importance of Trust in God's Forgiveness

The Bible teaches us that God's forgiveness is not just a one-time event, but a continuous process. As the apostle John writes, "The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin" (1 Jo 1:7). This means that no matter what we have done, God will forgive us. However, this forgiveness requires our trust in God's sovereignty and goodness. When we trust in God's forgiveness, we can let go of our anger and bitterness, and instead choose to respond with love and compassion. By doing so, we can experience the joy and freedom that comes from living a life that reflects God's love and forgiveness. Christian friend, do you really believe that you are forgiven?
