Starting Over at 65: A Biblical Perspective

Starting over at 65 can be a daunting task, but with a biblical perspective, it can be a transformative experience. As we age, it's easy to get caught up in the idea that we're too old to start something new or pursue our dreams. However, the Bible teaches us that it's never too late to start anew. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, it says, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" This verse reminds us that our identity is not defined by our age, but by our relationship with Jesus Christ.

To start over at 65, we need to be intentional about apprenticeship under Jesus. As Luke 9:23 says, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." This means we need to be willing to let go of our old way of life and follow Jesus' process of training. It's not about trying to fit into a mold or follow a set of rules, but about being closely identified with the Lord. As Romans 12:2 says, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." By surrendering to Jesus and following His process, we can experience a transformation that will bring us closer to God's will.

Starting over at 65 requires faith and trust in God's sovereignty. As Psalm 138:8 says, "The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O God, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands." This verse reminds us that God is sovereign over all creation and that He has a plan for our lives. By trusting in His goodness and faithfulness, we can start anew and pursue our dreams with confidence. As Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight." By starting over at 65, we can experience a fresh start, a new beginning, and a deeper relationship with God.
