The Bible's Teaching on Greed

The Bible consistently portrays greed as a destructive and debilitating force in human life. Proverbs 16:10 and 22:16 warn that greed is a "disgrace to a man," while Proverbs 28:1 and 29:27 emphasize the dangers of greed and its consequences. Greed is described as a "root sin" (1 Timothy 6:10) that can lead to a host of other sins, including stealing, adultery, and murder. In Luke 12:15, Jesus teaches that greed can never be satisfied, and that it can lead to worry and anxiety about not having enough. In contrast, those who reject greed are said to gain life (Proverbs 28:27).
