Is God Even Listening to Me?

The question of whether God is listening to us is a complex one, and it is rooted in our desire for an audible response from Him. We want God to speak to us in a way that we can understand, and we often expect Him to respond to our prayers in a specific way. However, the Bible teaches us that God's silence is not a sign of indifference, but rather a sign of trust. When we cannot hear God, it is because He has trusted us to withstand the silence, and it is in this silence that we find the opportunity to learn to listen to Him.

The Bible teaches us that God speaks to us in a variety of ways, not just through audible voices. He speaks to us through the Bible, through nature, and through other people. When we are united with Jesus Christ, we have the ability to hear God's voice all the time, not just in specific moments of prayer or Bible study. However, our ability to hear God is hindered by our attention and devotion. If we are devoted to things and service, but not to God, we will not hear Him. We must make a choice to lend our ear to God and to seek to hear His voice. As the Bible says, "They must lend their ear toward God to hear Him speaking to them" (Matthew 13:16).

The question of whether God is listening to us is not just about whether we can hear His voice, but also about whether we are willing to obey His commands. When God speaks to us, He expects us to respond in obedience. However, if we are not devoted to God, we will not hear Him, and we will not obey Him. This is a choice that we must make, and it is a choice that requires us to prioritize our relationship with God above all else. As the Bible says, "God showed me in His Word that people must have ears to hear" (Mark 4:9). We must choose to lend our ear to God and to seek to hear His voice, and we must be willing to obey His commands, even if it means sacrificing our own desires and plans. When we do this, we will find that God is indeed listening to us, and we will hear His voice in a way that we never have before.
