The Reality of God's Listening

The question of whether God is even listening to us is a complex one. From our perspective, it often seems like God is distant and unresponsive. However, the Bible teaches us that God is always listening and that He does answer all of our prayers, even if sometimes the answer is no or wait. This is not to say that God always responds in an audible or dramatic way. In fact, the Bible teaches us that God often speaks to us in the language we know best, through the people and circumstances around us.

The Problem of Our Own Hearing

The problem is not that God is not listening, but that we are not listening to Him. We are often distracted and preoccupied with our own thoughts and desires, and we fail to pay attention to the still, small voice of God. As the Bible says, "Faithful listening involves the attentive ear of the heart" (Ps 119:37). We must strive to hear God's voice in the midst of our busy lives, and we must be willing to make adjustments to our schedules and priorities in order to do so. When we fail to listen to God, we can become obstinate and resistant to His will, and we can even begin to doubt His presence and power in our lives.

The Importance of Listening

The importance of listening to God cannot be overstated. When we listen to God, we are able to hear His voice and follow His will, even when it is difficult or uncomfortable. We are able to trust in His goodness and sovereignty, and we are able to experience the joy and peace that come from knowing that we are living in accordance with His plan. As the Bible says, "The Lord will not hear the cry of the wicked, but the cry of the righteous He will hear" (Ps 34:17). When we listen to God, we are able to experience the blessing and favor of God in our lives, and we are able to live a life that is pleasing to Him. We must strive to listen to God in all things, and we must be willing to make sacrifices and adjustments in order to do so. By listening to God, we can experience a deeper level of intimacy and connection with Him, and we can live a life that is truly fulfilling and meaningful.
