Why God Allows Suffering in the Lives of Our Children

As a parent, it can be heartbreaking to see your child suffer, and it's natural to wonder why God allows it to happen. However, it's essential to remember that our children ultimately belong to God, and parenting is a stewardship—a sacred responsibility. While it's true that God could prevent many of the difficulties we face, He chooses not to, and it's not for us to question His reasons. Instead, we should focus on teaching our children to trust in God's goodness and sovereignty, even in the midst of suffering.

The Bible teaches us that God is not obligated to give us a reason for why He allows certain things to happen. In fact, the Scriptures address this issue very little, if at all. Instead, we're called to trust in God's character and His ultimate plan for our lives. As the psalmist wrote, "He redeems my life from the pit and crowns me with love and tender mercies" (Psalm 103:4). This verse reminds us that God's ultimate goal is to redeem and restore our lives, even in the midst of suffering.

As parents, we have the privilege of teaching our children to see God's goodness and sovereignty in the midst of suffering. We can model for them what it means to trust in God, even when we don't understand His ways. By doing so, we can help our children develop a deep and abiding faith in God, one that will sustain them throughout their lives. Ultimately, our goal as parents is to raise children who love God with all their hearts, and that requires teaching them to trust in His goodness and sovereignty, even in the midst of suffering.
