The Sovereignty of God and the Question of Suffering

When it comes to the question of why God allows our children to get sick, it is essential to understand the sovereignty of God over all creation. As the creator and sustainer of the universe, God is not obligated to explain Himself to us. His ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). However, this does not mean that God is uncaring or unloving. On the contrary, He is a good God who desires the best for His children, even in the midst of suffering.

The Purpose of Suffering

The Bible teaches us that suffering is a part of life, and it can serve a greater purpose. Sometimes, suffering can be a means of discipline, as God seeks to correct our children and teach them valuable lessons (Hebrews 12:5-11). At other times, suffering can be a means of refining our children, making them more like Christ (Romans 5:3-5). In both cases, God's ultimate goal is to draw our children closer to Himself and to help them develop a deeper understanding of His character.

Faith and Trust

Ultimately, the question of why God allows our children to get sick is not a question that can be fully answered by human understanding. It is a question that requires faith and trust in God's sovereignty and goodness. As parents, we must teach our children to trust in God, even in the midst of uncertainty and suffering. We must help them to see that God's plan is not always easy to understand, but it is always good (Romans 8:28). By trusting in God and His goodness, we can find peace and comfort, even in the midst of suffering. As the Psalmist wrote, "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18).
