Fear as a Sin

The Bible does not classify fear as a sin. In fact, it emphasizes the importance of fearing God (Ecclesiastes 12:13, Proverbs 1:7, 9:10, 15:33, 16:6, 19:23, 22:4, 23:17, 24:21, 28:14, 31:30, Psalm 34:9). Fear of God is seen as a necessary ingredient in right living (Proverbs 1:7), a recognition of God's greatness and righteousness (Psalm 89:7, 11, 18). It is an attitude that involves being overwhelmed with wonder before God's greatness (Psalm 119:38).
